Death of inmate Sager reported in Fort Madison

Fort Madison, Iowa — An inmate at the Iowa State Penitentiary died at  7:25 p.m. on August 23, 2026 on the Hospice Unit.

Steven Daniel Sager, age 70, was serving for crimes committed in Story County.

Sager's sentence began on April 5, 1993.
